Brian Tietje, Dean of Continuing Education
Brian Tietje (pronounced “tee-gee”) is a Professor of Marketing and has been the Dean of Continuing Education since July 2010. Previously Dr. Tietje was the Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Programs
at the Orfalea College of Business. His undergraduate business degree is from Bowling Green State University (1988), his MBA is from the University of Hawaii (1994), and his Ph.D. in marketing is from the
University of Washington (1999). He serves on the board of directors of Weatherby, Inc. and the Cal Poly Housing Corporation, and has corporate sales experience with firms including Culligan, Northwestern Mutual, Unilever, and Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products, Inc.
Dean Tietje's role in Continuing Education is to provide strategic leadership for academic innovation. He works closely with faculty, staff, and administrators across the campus and the CSU to develop and launch financially self-supporting academic programs that support student success and the mission of Cal Poly.

Patricia-Ann Stoneman, Director, Academic Programs
Patricia-Ann Stoneman is the Director of Academic Programs for Cal Poly Continuing Education. She is responsible for oversight of all program planning and implementation. As a part of the management team that reviews CE's operating policies, Pat ensures that Cal Poly Continuing Education follows state, CSU and campus guidelines for the delivery of both credit and non-credit educational programs.
With twenty years of experience at Cal Poly as a Continuing Education Director, Pat is an expert at evaluating the potential success of new programs. John Lyons, Director, Business Services
John Lyons is the Director of Business Services for Cal Poly Continuing Education. He provides direction and oversight to all business functions for Continuing Education. John is part of the management team and helps to ensure that Cal Poly Continuing Education follows state, CSU, and University guidelines for the delivery of both credit and non-credit educational programs. John administers the budget and all financial transactions and reporting, including the accounts payable, receivable, and registration functions for Continuing Education.
John has extensive experience in financial, academic, and administrative management in higher education. He has both developed and managed self-support academic and professional programs, including programs designed for international students.

Rose Duran, Program Coordinator
Rose Duran is an Academic Program Administrator for Continuing Education. She has been at the university for the past ten years. She currently is the Program Coordinator for the Adult Degree Program, International Travel Programs, the Wine Industry Certificate Program, the Dietetic Internship program and for new program development in collaboration with the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, College of Architecture and Environmental Design and the College of Liberal Arts. One of her passions is helping students complete their degree. Her role as an advisor for the Adult Degree Program is to provide academic advising in individual and group settings from time of admission through graduation. This includes course scheduling, faculty recruitment, and curriculum advisement and graduation preparation.
Rose Duran has extensive business experience. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo in Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing. She is currently pursuing an MBA and will complete her degree in June 2011. She serves on several local boards. Prior to coming to Cal Poly, she worked as an Information Systems Manager for French Hospital and Marian Medical Center. She worked on a Government Contract for five years as a Cost Analyst for BDM Management Company in Fort Hood, Texas, an Executive Manager for Robinsons May Company and a Training Manager for Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation.

Lorie Harrington, Program Coordinator
Lorie Harrington is a Program Coordinator for Continuing Education. Lorie currently works with the College of Engineering, Orfalea College of Business, College of Math and Science and the School of Education in developing and coordinating educational programs offered through Continuing Education. She enjoys researching and monitoring current trends in an effort to identify viable areas for educational development.
Lorie came to Cal Poly after many years of experience in student services with the University of California and is a Cal Poly alumna.

Vanessa Scrimiger, Program Support Coordinator
As the Program Support Coordinator for Continuing Education, Vanessa Scrimiger works with our Director of Programs, program coordinators and registration staff to see to it that the logistical course requirements are met. Vanessa coordinates all program details, from assigning rooms and ordering books to contacting instructors.
Vanessa is knowledgeable in all phases of Continuing Education's operations, having previously served as our business office supervisor for five years. Her ties to Cal Poly also extend to the Cal Poly Health Center where she served as the Front Desk Supervisor for twelve years.

Irma Arellano, IT & Registration Coordinator
As the IT & Registration Coordinator for Continuing Education, Irma Arellano is responsible for making sure that our students are able to register for Continuing Education classes. Irma works closely with the various administrative departments on campus to guarantee that Continuing Education students are provided the services they need for successful completion of their courses. As the IT Coordinator, she oversees and supports the computer software and hardware used by the CE staff.
Irma has over twenty years of experience working at Cal Poly Continuing Education, and has gained a thorough knowledge of each area of the department and its workings with the Cal Poly campus. You can look for Irma at the back of a crowded forum, with her hand in the air asking "Is this going to include the Continuing Ed students?"

Carolyn Barr, Registration Support Specialist
As the Registration Support Specialist for Continuing Education, Carolyn Barr is primarily responsible for processing student enrollments in the Cal Poly student information system, ensuring that students are awarded credit for their participation in Continuing Education. While her duties vary from day to day, she is always interacting with students, staff, faculty, and other departments on campus. If you have questions regarding billing, financial aid, payment plans, holds, cashiering, payments, collections, and other issues related to registering through Continuing Education, Carolyn will be happy to help you.
A member of the front office team, Carolyn also assists in answering and directing calls as needed, assisting customers, and providing administrative support for the department.
Prior to her position on the Registration staff, Carolyn worked as part of Program Support in Continuing Education. She is familiar with the all of the processes required by the many programs we offer, including our International programs, Open University, Interdisciplinary Studies, Language, Arts, Wine, and many others.

Josh Ruiz, Business Office Coordinator
Josh Ruiz is the Business Office Coordinator at Cal Poly Continuing Education. Josh provides a full range of administrative support for the Business Operations unit in Continuing Education. This includes support for and coordination of the cashiering, accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions; maintaining a base budget and annual operation budgets for the CE Operating Fund; coordination of the daily operations of the department; and general supervision of our excellent and diligent student staff. Josh’s working knowledge of computer systems and software enable him to assist in providing one-on-one help desk training, support, and problem solving for end users in the department.
Prior to the department’s recent internal reorganization, Josh served as Assistant to the Dean of Continuing Education for 4 years. This position provided him the opportunity to gain wide-ranging knowledge of Continuing Education’s programs and operations from both a detailed and a large-scale view. This position also allowed him to foster friendly and productive relationships with an extensive cross-section of university staff, faculty, and students, as well as private sector contacts.

Elaine Sullivan, Marketing Director
Whether it is a web, catalog, email or multichannel media plan, Elaine Sullivan and her team of student assistants deliver the message for Continuing Education and its partner programs. The Continuing Education Marketing office has the experience, the skill, the imagination and also the tools for any marketing endeavor, having recently acquired the Adobe CS5 suite of programs, new MAC and PC platforms, and Hobson's CRM.
A Cal Poly alumna, Elaine joined Cal Poly Continuing Education in 2008 after extensive experience growing businesses and building brands in the private sector. She is a recipient of several national direct media awards and the author of "The Black Dog Summer on the Vineyard Cookbook".
