Disaster Management & Homeland Security
Check out the programs Continuing Education offers!
Jobs in disaster management and homeland security are among the fastest growing in the nation. In our post 9/11 and Katrina era, individuals able to provide strong leadership in these rapidly growing, but still emerging sectors are needed by governmental agencies and the private sector. The U.S. Department of Labor is predicting that the employment of security management personnel will grow faster than all other occupations. As never before, concerns of threats to people and property demonstrate the need for qualified professionals in the areas of disaster management and homeland security.
The certificate is designed for professionals working in the areas of public safety, security management, and law enforcement as well as corporate executives responsible for security programs, information and communications personnel, fire protection and law enforcement professionals, and those seeking to enter into the field of disaster management and homeland security.
Continuing Education at California Polytechnic State University, in partnership with the California Emergency Management Agency, is launching a comprehensive and interlocking portfolio of programs in disaster management and homeland security. The programs are designed for disaster management and homeland security professionals desiring to update skills and knowledge as well as those new to the field.
Programs currently available at Cal Poly include a online Certificate in Disaster Management and Homeland Security for working professionals and a disaster management and homeland security minor designed for resident students available through the Department of Natural Resources Management. Planned for 2010 is the Master of Professional Studies in Disaster Management and Homeland Security.
