Wage & Hour Laws for California Employers
“Anyone can tell you it's tough to run a business. Now it's about to get tougher. The U.S. Department of Labor is cracking down on employee overtime violations, and business owners are going to start feeling the heat. The Department of Labor said wage & hour claims have more than doubled in the past year in the Tri-Counties, and at least a dozen additional personnel have been brought in to attack the trend head-on." Pacific Coast Business Times, Oct. 12, 2009
Navigating wage and hour laws governing employers can lead to a quagmire of misunderstanding and misinterpretation that can cost a small business thousands of dollars in back wages and penalties. This seminar will cover the differences in California and federal law, exempt/nonexempt employee status; payment and timing of wages; overtime; rest and meal breaks; recordkeeping; and a host of other detailed rules relating to the working conditions of your employees. You will learn the basics necessary to avoid the traps for the unwary that result in unexpected costs and penalties.

Ideas You Can Use
- The Wall Street Journal notes:
- "Many workers expect to change jobs 10 to 14 times in their lives...To ride the job-market surf, workers of the future will need not only the usual technical or professional qualifications, but an additional set of skills... Adaptability, Exploration and Entrepreneurialism."
- "The twin challenges that face a majority of 21st-century workers are outsourcing and automation. If they can put your job into a manual, they will, and if your job can be done by someone cheaper ina less expensive locale, it will go away...For the under-40 set, a leadership-development course or two will be helpful...starting in this decade, the baby boomer's retirement will leave a gaping hole in the executive ranks, and there will be opportunities for members
of Generations X and Y to take on greater responsibility"
